THE GREEN WASHING MACHINE
(written and recorded 2026)
i have a quiet conscience since i
do believe their mollifications
about consumer electronics,
food, clothes, cars, cruise ships and everything
i like the tales of neutrality
all evils can be compensated
says a sycophantic industry
that pretends sustainability
corporations do not have morals
and they cannot feel responsible
but they all need to make more money
and increase their shareholder value
methane's only candyfloss
glitter an attention getter
clear forests for green viscose
fast fashion, the more the better
we're stuffed geese, but need all brummagem
demand, supply, a vicious circle
be capitalistic, up or out
such a discombobulated world
coal is holy, holy cow
dye that natural gas bright green
some exhaust fumes to inhale
they may look black but they are clean
some farmers deep in mongolia
no-one knows they're suffering from cancer
some hidden mass pauperization
lots of subsurface lung diseases
the colour of the day is green and
the certificates look convincing
sometimes the green colour does flake off
a bit but then we just look away
on these grounds i have planted a tree
nobody will care five years later
when it's revealed that this very tree
was in fact planted on poisoned ground
little things that we hold in our hands
cosy words that we see on our screens
we don't want to know how many more
mother earth can bear until her end
the green washing machine
washes better than ever before
the green washing machine
with good conscience consume even more
the green washing machine
we love to believe and we want more
a quiet conscience sleeps in thunder
only after the last green-washing of a product has been uncovered
only after the whistle has been blown on the last green-washing of a production process
only after the last green-washing of a service has been laid bare
then, in scorching heat, will you find that the emperor is naked
a quiet conscience sleeps in thunder
